One Less Gun: Officers Arrest Sixteen-Year-Old Boy after Recovering Illegal Firearm

At about 8:45 PM on Monday, November 9, 2015, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force affected an arrest for firearm related offenses in the area of 15 Fenelon Street in District B-3 (Mattapan).

While on patrol in their unmarked Boston Police cruiser, officers observed a young male standing in front of a local business on Washington Street. As officers passed, they observed that the male was staring intently at their cruiser, then grabbed his sweatshirt near his waistband, and immediately began walking in the opposite direction from the officers. When the officers turned their vehicle around to monitor to male’s behavior, they noticed that he had looped around and was walking back in the direction from which he came, all the while still holding his sweatshirt near his waistband. Officers then observed the male turn onto Fenelon Street and start sprinting. When officers caught up to the male, they conducted a pat frisk and engaged him in conversation while other officers canvassed the immediate area for discarded items.

During the canvas, one of the officers lifted the lid of a large blue recycling bin. The officer observed a white sock on top of other items that appeared to be intended for recycling. Noting that the sock seemed out of place, the officer investigated further and discovered a loaded silver .45 caliber Colt Automatic firearm.

Due to the officers’ observations, the 16-year-old juvenile male from Boston was arrested and charged with Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Carrying a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Number.
