Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Officer Spots Armed Robbers’ Vehicle, Leads to Arrest of Three Suspects

At about 1:40 PM on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for a robbery in progress in the area of 1141 Dorchester Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who reported he was walking down Bay Street to the Savin Hill MBTA Station when he was approached from behind by two male suspects. The suspects pulled out a black colored firearm and stole his wallet from his sweatshirt pocket, then fled with a third suspect in a black newer model Honda with a “3” as the first digit on the license plate. Officers canvassed the area for the suspects to no avail.

As one responding officer made his way back toward the district station, he observed a vehicle fitting the above description occupied by 3 males. The officer followed the vehicle which was traveling at a high rate of speed and was finally able to conduct a stop in the area of Morrissey Blvd. and UMass Boston Road.

Officers immediately recognized the occupants due to prior interactions. The front seat passenger was positively identified as the suspect who robbed the victim, and after a search of the vehicle produced the victim’s wallet, all three suspects were placed into custody.

Officers arrested 20-year-old Cornel Bell from Dorchester, a 17-year-old juvenile from Revere, and a 16-year-old juvenile from Dorchester and charged them with Armed Robbery.
