HISTORY MADE: For the 1st time in 22 years a Boston Mayor participated in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in South Boston. Said Mayor Marty Walsh: “I’m very happy. It's been a long time but we can finally move beyond the issue of inclusiveness.” Offered Police Commissioner William Evans: "Being a South Boston kid, I've always enjoyed this day. But, there's no doubt, this year was extra special because everybody felt welcome. There was a lot of positive energy along the parade route because of the inclusiveness.” For the first time in parade history, gay rights groups were permitted to march in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
