Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Suspect Apprehended in Multiple Convenience Store Robberies

At about 9:04 a.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2015, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) were involved in a foot chase which ultimately led to charges being sought for not one but two armed robberies.

Officers were on directed patrol in the area of Erie and Ellington Streets which is two blocks away from Mr. Convenience Plus, a small shop which had been robbed at gun point on Thursday March 12th and Sunday March 22nd.  Both robberies were believed to have been perpetrated by the same suspect who investigators believed lived in the neighborhood.  Officers observed a male matching the given description walking on Glenway Street and attempted to stop him.  When the suspect saw one of the officers exit the vehicle he immediately started running at full speed while keeping his hands in his coat pockets which led officers to believe he may be in possession of a weapon.  Officers finally caught the suspect in front of 7 Fowler Street and placed him in custody.

After a pat frisk revealed no weapon, the suspect informed officers that he had discarded a semiautomatic handgun styled BB gun during the foot chase and directed officers to it.  The firearm was seized as evidence by District B-2 Detectives as were the clothes the suspect was wearing.

The suspect, an 18-year-old from Dorchester was initially arrested as a Disorderly Person but later confessed to both prior Armed Robberies and will be facing charges at Dorchester District Court.
