Daily Dose of Great Police Work: BPD Officers Make Swift Arrest After Unarmed Robbery

At about 5:14 PM on Thursday April 9, 2015, officers from District E-5 (West Roxbury) made an arrest in the area of Spring and Powell Streets after an unarmed robbery at Shaw’s Market.

An officer on patrol in the area was flagged down by the 17 year old victim who stated an acquaintance had just stolen cash from him.  The victim stated that he works at Shaw’s Market and that the suspect, who was later identified as Isiah Speller, 19, of Dorchester, had also been employed by Shaw’s but had been fired.   As the victim walked out of the store, the suspect approached him and asked if he had cashed his check yet.  When the victim showed the suspect a crisp one hundred dollar bill, he snatched it from his hand and fled on foot.  The victim pleaded with the suspect to simply return the money but the suspect refused and then made several threatening statements towards him.  The victim was able to keep the suspect in sight from a safe distance until flagging down the passing police cruiser.

Responding officers quickly stopped the suspect after a brief foot chase and placed him under arrest without incident.  The money was then returned to the hard working victim.  The suspect is charged with one count of Unarmed Robbery and will appear in West Roxbury District Court.
