Keeping Boston Safe: Four in Custody after Search Warrant Leads to Recovery of Gun, Drugs and Money in Dorchester

Keeping Boston Safe: BPD Officers Arrest Four Suspects, Seize a Gun, Drugs and Money in Dorchester:  In response to numerous complaints from community members eager to rid their neighborhood of the violence and unrest that accompanies the sale of illegal narcotics, members of the District B-3 Neighborhood Drug Control executed a search warrant on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at 20 Fowler Street in Dorchester.  As a result of the search, officers were able to see and seize a Bersa Thunder .380 Pistol, several rounds of ammunition, approximately $800 in US Currency and various amounts of Heroin, Crack Cocaine, Cocaine and Marijuana, as well as, scales and packaging materials often used in the sale of illegal drugs (see photo).  Officers then arrested Anthony Baptista, 39, of Springfield, Debbie Grayson, 53, of Dorchester,  Maribella Martinez, 21, of Springfield, and Shanitta Smith, 24 of Roxbury.  All four suspects will appear in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Possession with Intent to Distribute both Class A and Class B Drugs.  Court.  Said Commissioner Evans: “Anytime my officers get a gun off the streets and out of our neighborhoods, that’s a good thing.  Moreover, I continue to be impressed with the professionalism displayed by my officers every time they encounter and safely disarm an armed felon.  Thanks to my officers and their ongoing commitment to public safety, our city is one of the safest big cities in America.”
