HONORED: Commissioner Evans Proudly Accepts the 2016 Isaac Hecker Award for Social Justice

HONORED: Commissioner William Evans was honored and proudly accepted the 2016 Isaac Hecker Award for Social Justice on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at the Paulist Center located at 5 Park Street in Boston. The Isaac Hecker Award for Social Justice is presented to those committed to building and growing a more just and peaceful world. The selection committee was particularly impressed with the Commissioner’s humble, compassionate and empathy-filled approach to community policing and helping those less fortunate in our society. Said Commissioner Evans: “I am honored to receive the Isaac Hecker Award. I’ve always believed the role of a police officer is to be a helper, protector and guardian. I’m a kid who didn’t come from a lot but I was always surrounded by people who cared for me, looked out for me and believed in me. I very easily could have gone the other way but my brothers always kept me out of trouble. It’s the reason I always say, ‘There’s no such thing as a bad kid, just kids looking for a chance and someone to believe in them.’ And, there’s no doubt those experiences have shaped my policing philosophy.”
