One Less Gun: Neighborhood DCU Arrests Two, Recovers Illegal Firearm after Struggle with Suspect

At about 5:55 PM on Thursday, December 1, 2016, members of the District C-11 Neighborhood Drug Control Unit conducted an investigation resulting in a firearm arrest in the area of 515 Gallivan Boulevard.

While surveilling the area, officers observed a drug transaction between the occupants of a motor vehicle. Officer stopped the vehicle in the area of 630 Adams Street and placed 21-year-old Jamari Manning of Dorchester under arrest for Distribution of Class D Drugs and Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Laws. As the officers attempted to have the operator, 21-year-old Brandon L. Ruelas of Dorchester, exit the vehicle, he pushed the officers and attempted to flee. During a violent physical struggle, a loaded Smith & Wesson .40 caliber firearm fell from Ruelas’s shirt. Officers were ultimately able to apprehend Ruelas and secure the firearm. Ruelas was arrested and charged with Distribution of Class D Drugs, Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Laws, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, and firearm related charges. Ruelas was also found to have an outstanding warrant out of Quincy District Court for Malicious Damage and Threats.
