BPD Detectives Charge Three Suspects in Connection to Fire that Destroyed a School Playground in Roslindale

What appeared to be a suspicious blaze proved to be just that and on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, BPD detectives and investigators from the BFD Fire Investigation Unit charged three individuals with setting the fire that destroyed the Charles Sumner Elementary School playground in Roslindale.  Little more than a week ago, at about 9:51pm, on May 23, 2016, officers from District E-5 (West Roxbury) responded to a call for a fire in the rear of 15 Basile Street.  On arrival, officers observed a large portion of the playground to be on fire.  The Boston Fire Department responded and extinguished the flames but the damage, estimated at over $10,000, had already been done.  The three suspects will be charged with Arson in West Roxbury District Court.  All three suspects are from the Roslindale area.  Two of the suspects are juvenile males, ages 16 and 14, while the third suspect, whose name is being withheld by police, is 23 years old.
