Because We Care: BPD Officers Roll Out Red Carpet for Kids Battling Cancer

On Wednesday, July 20, 2016, BPD Officers along with representatives from Cops for Kids with Cancer organization rolled out the red carpet for some super brave kids battling a super serious disease. After picking the up kids – all being treated for cancer at MGH’s Pediatric Oncology Unit - BPD motorcycle officers provided the kids a presidential-like escort from the hospital to the harbor. Said one of the kids, “It was so cool! Everybody was looking at us like we were really important. And, we didn’t stop for one red light.” On arrival at the BPD’s Harbor Patrol Unit, the kids were treated to free ice cream – courtesy of the BPD Ice Cream Truck – and then escorted to a waiting BPD patrol boat which then gave the kids and their families a tour of Boston Harbor. Said one of the officers involved in the escort: “I get chills every time I do this and I’m always honored to be a part of it. Seeing the kids smile is absolutely awesome. But, maybe more than anything else, if we can help sick kids not think about being sick for a few hours, that’s a really good day for all of us.” To learn more about the Cops for Kids with Cancer organization – please click on the enclosed link:
