One Less Gun: Suspect in Custody After Traffic Stop Leads to the Recovery of Illegal Drugs and Loaded Firearm in Roxbury

At about 4:40 PM on Monday January 9, 2017, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite firearm and drug related arrest after performing a traffic stop in the area of 75 Malcolm X Boulevard in Roxbury.  The officers were on directed patrol in response to numerous recent incidents involving gun and gang activity in the area when they stopped a motor vehicle for an equipment violation.  Officers approached and spoke with the operator, David Arias, 25, of Roxbury, and removed him from the vehicle to perform a pat frisk when he began to behave in a suspicious manner.   Officers placed the suspect in custody without incident after they recovered two small bags of crack cocaine packaged for sale and several 30mg oxycodone pills from inside the vehicle.  Officers then performed a standard motor vehicle inventory search which led to the recovery of a loaded 9mm Kel-Tec P11 Luger handgun.  The suspect will appear in Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Armed Career Criminal and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B Drugs.
