At about 1:30 PM on Saturday, February 18, 2017, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an on-site arrest for firearm related charges in the area of Gaylord Street in District B-3 (Mattapan).

The officers had been conducting an ongoing investigation of several street gang associates during which they observed a recent film of a 14-year-old juvenile male in possession of what appeared to be two firearms. Officers set up surveillance of the juvenile’s residence. In short time, the officers observed one of the juvenile’s associates, 24-year-old Darnel Marve of Dorchester, exit the residence and place an object in the trunk of his car. The juvenile then exited the residence and joined Marve inside the vehicle. Officers made a stop of the vehicle and upon inspection of a backpack that had been placed in the trunk, officers recovered a loaded Taurus .357 caliber revolver.

Officers placed Marve under arrest and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm. Officers placed the 14-year-old juvenile under arrest and charged him with Delinquent to wit: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.

Upon further investigation of the juvenile’s residence, officers recovered a Botan “blank firing gun” (incapable of firing live ammo) that officers had previously observed in the possession of the juvenile. Officers seized the item for further testing.
