One Less Gun: Four Illegal Firearms Recovered in Three Separate Incidents Yesterday Afternoon in Boston

INCIDENT #1: At about 2:50 PM on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, members of the City-Wide Drug Control Unit executed two search warrants in the area of 65 Dix Street in District C-11 (Dorchester). As a result of the execution of the warrants, officers recovered a loaded Taurus 740 Slim .40 caliber firearm, an additional 18 rounds of ammunition, approximately 100 grams of heroin, and approximately 15 grams of cocaine. Officers arrested 21-year-old Kenny Duong of Dorchester and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. Criminal complaints for Trafficking Class A Drugs, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B Drugs, and Possession of Class B and E Drugs were filed against 24-year-old Lisa Nguyen of Dorchester.

INCIDENT #2: At about 9:30 PM on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force recovered two firearms in the area of the D Street Housing development in District C-6 (South Boston). Officers on directed patrol to address recent shootings and firearm related incidents in the area, observed a group of known gang members congregating near an open door at 4 D’allessio Court. As officers struck up a conversation with the group, another officer canvassed the area for weapons and soon observed a loaded black Glock 36 .45 caliber firearm secreted in a hole under a stairway. When the officer removed the firearm, a second loaded firearm—a silver and black Smith & Wesson 3913 9mm—was located behind the first. Officers recovered and processed both guns. All members of the group were identified by the officers.

INCIDENT #3: At about 10:00 PM on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force conducted an investigation in the area of Annunciation Road and specifically 41 Prentiss Street that lead to the arrest of 20-year-old Jermaine Blackman of Roxbury for firearm related offenses. During the course of the investigation, Blackman was found to illegally be in possession of a loaded black and silver FMK 9mm firearm. Officers arrested Blackman and charged him with Trespassing, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm. Blackman was additionally charged with second and subsequent firearm related offenses.

Said Commissioner Evans, "Taking guns off the street remains one of my highest priorities. Every gun that my officers recover is one less gun that can be used to hurt or kill someone. Gun violence has no place in our city, and everyone needs to get involved to make Boston safe. It's troubling when I see a 20-year-old, who was just recently released on gun related charges back out there and armed with yet another gun."
