Keeping Boston Safe: Members of Youth Violence Strike Force Arrest Juvenile in Possession of a Firearm in Dorchester

At about 2:28 PM on Friday, January 12, 2018, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force were on directed patrol near Fenelon Playground in the area of Erie and Merrill Streets in Dorchester, when officers observed an individual they believed to be in possession of a firearm. Officers had received information indicating the individual in question may be in possession of a firearm. Upon seeing an individual who fit the description of the suspect, officers approached the individual to better understand and further investigate the incident. After identifying themselves as police officers, officers asked the suspect if he was in possession of a gun. In answer to the question, the suspect confirmed that he was and informed officers that he was carrying a loaded firearm in his backpack. Officers promptly recovered the firearm (see photo) and arrested a 17-year-old male juvenile of Boston and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way.
