One Less Gun: BPD Officers Bravely Disarm Armed Suspect Caught Trespassing in Roxbury

ONE LESS GUN: At about 12:13 AM, on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a call for a loud disturbance in the area of 70 Annunciation Road. Specifically, officers were responding to complaint relative to a group of males being boisterous and loud while drinking in public. When officers arrived, they observed several individuals standing in front of 70 Annunciation Road. Upon seeing the approaching officers, one of the individuals quickly turned around and ran inside the building. As officers tried to give chase, several individuals attempted to block and impede the officers’ efforts to further engage the suspect. When officers resumed their foot pursuit, they observed the suspect exit the building. Upon catching up to him, officers promptly noted that, in addition to trespassing, he appeared nervous and extremely jumpy. A pat frisk of the suspect for weapons proved unsuccessful. However, believing the suspect had likely discarded a weapon when he ran away from the officers, a search of the immediate area was conducted. In short time, officers observed and recovered a loaded silver and black firearm (see photo) found on the ground near where the suspect had exited the building.

Officers arrested Adrian Fernandes, 18, of Boston and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way and Trespassing.
