At about 10:00 PM on Monday, October 8, 2018, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made an arrest for firearm related offenses in the area of 64 Academy Terrace, Roxbury. While travelling on Centre Street, officers made observations of two to three individuals in the doorway of 277 Centre Street. One male with a red jacket walked into the building upon the officer’s arrival. The other male began tucking his right hand tightly in his jacket pocket and left-hand swinging freely as he quickly went down the stairs making distance between himself and the officers. The suspect, later identified as Tyrese Myers-Gethers, 19 of Dorchester, with his right hand still tightly tucked into his jacket pocket, turned and sprinted away towards the lot in front of 277 Centre Street down a foot path onto Amory Street, out to Columbus Avenue and up the stairs into Academy Homes. Officers followed behind Myers, broadcast his description and he was apprehended in the area of 64 Academy Court where he was placed in custody. Believing Myers may have discarded a firearm, officers began to retrace his flight where they recovered a silver Cobra .380 with an obliterated serial number, a silver metal feeding device and no ammunition.
Myers was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Firearm with Defaced Serial number. He will be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
