Local Business Owners Awarded Commissioner’s Commendations for their Assistance in Capturing Suspect

On Monday, November 26, 2018, local business owner Daniel Morris and his daughter Dawn Morris were presented with Commissioner’s Commendations for their actions following a robbery of their store at 120 Boston Street (DJ's European Market) during a community meeting in South Boston. The incident occurred at about 4:29 AM on August 4, 2018. While preparing food inside her family’s business, Ms. Morris heard the sound of glass breaking in front of the store. Immediately, Ms. Morris activated the store’s panic alarm and notified her father, Daniel Morris who arrived at the scene. Mr. Morris gave chase to the fleeing suspect. With the assistance of Mr. Morris and Ms. Morris, officers were able to apprehend the suspect. Due to the selfless and heroic actions of Dawn and Daniel Morris, a violent crime was interrupted, and a felon with a long criminal history was apprehended, thereby making the streets of the city of Boston a safer place for all residents.
