'Tis The Season: Former Boston Mayor Thomas Menino’s Spirit of Charity and Kindness Celebrated at 25th Annual Toy Drive in Dorchester

‘Tis The Season: On Monday December 24, 2018, Mayor Martin Walsh and Commissioner William Gross joined with Cardinal Sean O’Malley to help share a little Christmas cheer at Saint Peter’s Church in Dorchester. The event marked the 25th anniversary of a special neighborhood toy drive which was started by former Boston Mayor Thomas Menino. His family has continued this endeavor since his passing in 2014 as an enduring symbol of the bond he shared with his constituents in and around the Bowdoin Street neighborhood. Through a collaborative effort with Team Menino and Catholic Charities of Boston, jolly volunteers gave out 4,000 Christmas gifts to deserving children and families in need just in time for the holidays. Commissioner Gross addressed those gathered in attendance, speaking about the importance of care and compassion within the community while thanking Mrs. Angela Menino for continuing to share Mayor Menino’s legacy of charity and kindness saying, “Your husband’s spirit is definitely alive and strong.”
