One Less Gun: BPD Officers Arrest Juvenile After Recovering Loaded Firearm in Dorchester

At about 5:22PM on Wednesday December 26, 2018, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) made an onsite firearm arrest while on patrol in the area of 90 Ames Street. Officers observed a male juvenile with his right-hand in his coat pocket grasping an unknown object. The suspect appeared to be extremely nervous as the officers approached to speak with him. During the interaction the suspect would not maintain eye contact with the officers and fled on foot into the courtyard between several buildings throughout the housing complex. Officers gave chase and at no time did the suspect remove his right hand from his coat pocket. Officers observed the suspect kneel down in front of a parked motor vehicle, pull an object out of his waistband area and throw it underneath the motor vehicle. The suspect tried to run back to the rear courtyard of 90 Ames Street but was quickly apprehended by officers.

Officers recovered a loaded Smith and Wesson firearm underneath the motor vehicle near the front passengers’ tire. The juvenile suspect was placed under arrest and charged with the following offenses; Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, and Delinquent to wit Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.  The juvenile suspect will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
