Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Suspect Wanted in Connection with Several Armed Robberies Arrested by BPD Fugitive Unit

At about 9:20 PM on Thursday, February 8, 2018, officers assigned to District A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for an armed robbery in progress at the Venice Convenience Store located at 38 Cooper Street. Upon arrival, the officers spoke with the victim who stated that he had just been robbed at gunpoint and assaulted by an unknown suspect who stole an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the area in a motor vehicle. Officers and detectives processed the scene and were able to obtain surveillance images of the suspect, which were then disseminated to District A-1 officers. A short time later, detectives received notification that officers recognized the individual from previous interactions as 47-year-old John Bowdon of Woburn. Further investigation allowed officers to confirm that identification which resulted in the issuance of an arrest warrant for Bowden for Armed Robbery and Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon for the above incident, as well as additional charges which were sought in connection to two separate incidents that had previously occurred at the A-1 Convenience in the area of 285 Main Street in Charlestown.

At about 8:25 AM on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, members of the Fugitive Apprehension Unit stopped Bowden in a vehicle in the area of 180 Green Street in Melrose and placed him in custody without incident by virtue of the above warrants. The suspect will appear in Boston Municipal Court on all charges related to this ongoing investigation.
