Keeping Boston Safe: Alert Officers in West Roxbury Catch Breaking & Entering Suspect in the Act

At about 1:45 AM on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, officer from District E-5 (West Roxbury) were on directed patrol in the area of Centre and Spring Streets due to recent calls for incidents of breaking and entering at various convenience stores. As officers drove by 1906 Centre Street, Marino’s Market & Deli, they observed an unknown male facing the front door with a bag at his feet. It appeared to officers that he was using his body to shield his actions. When officers approached to investigate, the male took off running onto Parker Street where officers lost sight of him. Additional units responded to the area and set up a perimeter. With the assistance of BPD K-9 “Duke,” officers were able to track the suspect several blocks, where the dog and officers observed him sliding out from beneath a parked car. The K-9 also indicated on a crowbar, a tire iron, and a t-shirt while tracking the suspect. The suspect, identified as 37-year-old German Serrano of Roslindale, was arrested without incident and charged with Attempted Breaking and Entering into a Non-Residence (Night) and Possession of Burglarious Tools.

Below, K-9 "Duke" poses for a photo shortly after tracking the suspect. Well done, "Duke."
