BPD Photo of the Day: Commissioner Evans Wishes a Happy 100th Birthday to Edward Barron – One of the Minds Behind the Invention of Kevlar Body Armor


Earlier today, on Sunday, May 6, 2018, Commissioner Evans had the honor and pleasure of meeting Mr. Edward R. Barron at the Langham Hotel in Downtown Boston as he celebrated his 100th Birthday. Mr. Barron is one of the brilliant minds behind the invention, development and advancements of Kevlar body armor. Mr. Barron first filed a patent in 1962 for a flexible, composite armored body garment intended to provide maximum ease of movement to the wearer without sacrificing ballistic protection of vital areas. Kevlar vests are now commonly used by all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and law enforcement officers nationwide. Commissioner Evans wished Mr. Barron a very happy 100th and thanked him for helping to keep his officers safe.
