Officers Arrest Two 13-year-olds for Unarmed Robbery of a Cellphone on Summer Street

At about 6:00 PM on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, officers from District C-6 (South Boston) responded to a call for an unarmed robbery in the area of 268 Summer Street. Upon the officers’ arrival, a victim described two young male suspects that rode up to him on bicycles, grabbed his cell phone out of his hands and fled toward the Boston Convention Center. An officer on patrol in the area of A Street and Melcher Street observed two individuals matching the suspects’ descriptions riding bikes. When the suspects saw the officer they immediately split up and rode faster away from the police. After a short pursuit of each suspect, officers were able to stop and apprehend the two males. During their apprehension, one of the males attempted to headbutt one of the officers who was able to block him from doing so. The officer then removed a cell phone of the same make and model that was stolen from the victim from that male’s front pocket. Once turned on, the victim’s name appeared on the phone. The suspect then told officers that he was going to come back and blow up the police station. The suspects, a 13-year-old juvenile male from Brighton and a 13-year-old juvenile male from Dorchester, were arrested and charged with Unarmed Robbery. Both were booked and released to their parents with the order to appear in Boston Juvenile Court on Tuesday, May 9, 2018 for their arraignment.
