One Less Gun: Suspect in Custody & Loaded Firearm Recovered After Officers Respond to the Sound of Gunfire in Dorchester


At about 1:20 AM on Friday June 29, 2018, officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) made an onsite firearm arrest after responding to the sound of gunfire in the area of 137 Hancock Street in Dorchester. The officers were on directed patrol when they heard several gunshots in the immediate area. The officers drove a short distance down Hancock Street and immediately observed an individual running on foot on Howe Street. The officers exited their vehicle and pursued the male subject on foot as he fled into the driveway of 37 Howe Street. As the officers approached, the suspect discarded a loaded .25 caliber Tanfoglio Giuseppe handgun on the ground. Officers safely recovered the firearm and placed the suspect in custody without incident. The suspect, Derek Lima, 26, of Randolph, will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Dwelling and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
