UPDATE: Black Lab Befriended by BPD Sergeant Outside Boston Children’s Hospital Named Honorary Member of BPD’s K-9 Unit: Since we last met Olive, a beautiful black lab befriended by Sgt. Sam Silta outside Boston Children’s Hospital less than a month ago (July 5, 2018), there’s been a development to report. For those unfamiliar with the story, Sgt. Silta was working a paid detail outside the hospital when he observed a family clearly in need of aid and assistance as they were attempting to hastily locate parking while rushing their son into the hospital. Quickly sensing there was an issue, Sgt. Silta promptly approached the family and helped them park their car. After parking the car, Sgt. Silta soon learned the family was in further need of assistance as they had their family dog, Olive, with them and he wasn’t allowed entry into the hospital. Without so much as skipping a beat, Sergeant Silta offered to keep Olive with him for the duration of his detail while the family focused on the more important issue of getting the necessary treatment for their son. Well, as you can well imagine, the family was incredibly grateful. But, so was Sgt. Silta. In fact, he was so impressed with Olive’s friendly demeanor, good nature and exceptional behavior, he submitted a request to make Olive an Honorary Member of the BPD’s K-9 Unit. And, as you can see by the certificate that now hangs on the wall above Olive’s sleeping quarters, the motion was passed posthaste.
