One Less Gun: Suspect in Custody and Loaded Firearm Recovered After Motor Vehicle Accident in Dorchester

 

At about 7:50 PM on Wednesday August 15, 2018, officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) arrested Shaquan Mason, 24, of Dorchester, on firearm, drug and motor vehicle related charges in the area of 155 Gallivan Boulevard in Dorchester.

Officers were on routine patrol when they observed a vehicle in the area of Neponset Circle in Dorchester traveling at a high rate of speed which was missing a front tire, causing visible sparks. The suspect vehicle continued to operate erratically, until spinning 360 degrees and coming to rest after crashing into a guardrail. Officers then approached and observed the operator exiting the vehicle while clutching a white backpack against his chest with both arms. The suspect appeared unsteady on his feet and had an odor of alcohol emanating from his breath. Officers placed the suspect in custody after a brief struggle at which time they recovered a loaded 9mm Canik handgun from inside the backpack. Officers later located and seized four large bags of marijuana and nearly $3000.00 in U.S. Currency from inside the vehicle.

Shaquan Mason will appear in Dorchester District Court on multiple charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D Drugs and Resisting Arrest.
