Earlier today, on Thursday August 2, 2018, Sergeant Matthew L. Spillane assigned to the Boston Police Technology Services Division was promoted to his new rating of Sergeant Detective. Commissioner Evans and Chief Gross were on hand as Lieutenant Matthew J. Spillane presented his son with his new badge. Sergeant Detective Spillane represents the 4th generation of his family to serve the Boston Police Department. His great grandfather, Patrolman John Spillane, worked in Divisions 6 and 15 before losing his job during the BPD Strike of 1919. His grandfather was a Sergeant assigned to District D-14 (Brighton) and his father is currently assigned to the Boston Police Operations Division. We congratulate Sgt. Det. Spillane on his promotion and wish him well as he continues on in his position within the department.
