Daily Dose of Great Police Work: BPD and Longwood Public Safety Officers Arrest One in Ongoing Efforts to Reduce Scooter Thefts in South Boston

Daily Dose of Great Police Work: At about 2:03 AM on August 24, 2018, Longwood Public Safety Officers assisted by C-6 Officers, made an on-site arrest in the area of 250 Old Colony Avenue in South Boston.

While assigned to the Beacon Management Property, Longwood Public Safety Officers were monitoring the security cameras protecting the property. Officers observed two individuals projecting a flashlight on a scooter in the rear of 250 Old Colony Ave. Officers further observed one of the males lying on the ground cutting a chain attached to the scooter with an electric handheld saw. Officers approached the individuals who immediately fled the area on foot. Following a brief foot chase, officers were able to stop one of the suspects. Officers attempted to place the suspect into custody, but the suspect resisted, striking one of the Safety Officers with a pair of metal pliers. Boston Police Officers were dispatched at this time to assist.  The suspect was eventually placed under arrest. Officers recovered a Ryobi Handheld Electric Saw and a pair of metal pliers which were logged as evidence.

Officers arrested 22-year-old Wilson Moreira of Roxbury. Moreira is charged with Larceny Over $250, Possession of Burglarious Tools, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, and Resisting Arrest.

Moreira will be arraigned in South Boston District Court.
