One Less Gun: BPD Officers Arrest Three Suspects, Including a 16-Year-Old Male, After Recovering Loaded Firearm, Drugs and Cash in Dorchester as a Result of a Multi-Jurisdictional Investigation

ONE LESS GUN: At about 7:25 PM, on Thursday, August 2, 2018, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Brandon Varela, 20, of Avon, Tino Fernandes, 21, of Randolph and a 16-year-old male from Randolph on firearm and drug-related charges during a traffic stop in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Franklin Field Road in Dorchester. The arrests come as a result of a lengthy, joint investigation in conjunction with the Randolph and Braintree Police Departments. Officers were able to place all three suspects in custody without incident while safely recovering a loaded .32 caliber Black Llama model Gabilondo Y Cia Vitoria handgun (See photo). Additionally, officers seized a medium sized bag of heroin, 2 small bags of crack cocaine along with $683.00 in US Currency during the booking search of Brandon Varela. All suspects will appear in Dorchester District Court for arraignment. Brandon Varela will be charged with Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class A and B Drugs. Tino Fernandes will be charged with Unlawful Possession of Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and the 16-year-old male will be charged with Delinquent to Wit: Unlawful Possession of Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
