One Less Gun: Officers Assigned to the Bicycle Unit of District B-2 Make Firearm Arrest in Roxbury

ONE LESS GUN: On Wednesday, August 29, at about 5:20 p.m. officers assigned to the Bicycle Unit of District B-2 (Roxbury) were on patrol in the area of Gerard and Island street. While on Island Street officers were approached by an individual that stated a male, known to the individual, was selling drugs in the area of Massachusetts Avenue and Gerard Street. Officers were provided with a physical description of the male and were told he was wearing a 'fishing hat'.

At about 5:55 p.m. officers returned to the area of Gerard Street between Massachusetts Avenue and Island Street, and observed multiple persons standing on the private property of 11 Gerard Street. Due to numerous complaints of trespassing and persons using drugs on the property of 11 Gerard Street and several "No Trespassing" signs displayed around the property, officers approached the group. Officers then observed an individual in the group that matched the description provided wearing a fishing hat. The individual was standing on the property of 11 Gerard Street, next to a "No Trespassing" sign.

On noticing the officers, the individual began to walk quickly towards Massachusetts Avenue, carrying a backpack. Officers approached the male, informed him that he was trespassing on private party and was under arrest. Officers performed a pat-frisk of the male and the backpack. Inside the backpack, officers recovered a firearm. After a brief struggle, officers were able to place the male in handcuffs. Bryan Owens, 33, of Boston was charged with Trespassing, Possession of a firearm without a license, Possession of ammunition without an FID card, and Carrying a loaded Firearm on a Public Way.
