At about 2:57 AM on Saturday, September 22, 2018, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a person with a gun in the area of 53 Keegan Street in Roxbury. Officers received a description of the suspect via BPD Operations. Upon arrival, officers observed a male matching the description of the suspect. The male proceeded to change direction and began to walk away from officers. Officers observed the male bend down next to a parked motor vehicle as if he was placing an item under the front passenger tire. The male continued to walk away from officers until they were eventually able to stop him and speak with him. While speaking with the male, additional officers arrived on scene and searched under the car where the male had been. Officers were able to recover a loaded Century Arms Canik 9MM firearm as well as eighteen rounds of live ammunition. The male, identified as Branden Bannister, 29-years-old, of Roxbury was placed under arrest. Further investigation led to the discovery of an active warrant for Possession with Intent to Distribute out of Rhode Island.
Bannister is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on the following charges: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Weapon, and Armed Criminal Level 2.
