At about 5:19 PM on Tuesday January 15, 2019, members of the District D-4 (South End) Drug Control Unit arrested Gerald Moore, 23, of Hyde Park, on firearm and drug related charges after conducting a traffic stop as part of an investigation in the area Blue Hill Avenue and Waverly Street in Roxbury. Officers had stopped the vehicle which was being operated by the suspect and were speaking to him when he suddenly exited the vehicle and took off running down Blue Hill Avenue. Officers caught up to the suspect a short distance later at which time he began to reach towards a camouflaged pouch that was attached to his waist area. As officers attempted to restrain the suspect, one of them clearly felt a handgun inside the pouch as he struggled to control the suspect’s hands while alerting the others to the presence of the weapon. Officers were eventually able to place the suspect in custody while safely recovering a loaded 9mm Ruger SR9 handgun from inside pouch. It was later revealed the firearm had previously been reported stolen in Maine in 2018.

The suspect will appear in Boston Municipal Court on numerous charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Distribution of Class B Drugs, Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Receiving Stolen Property.
