Suspect in Custody After BPD Officers Recover Loaded Firearm During Violent Struggle in Jamaica Plain

At about 7:43 PM on Friday October 4, 2019, officers assigned to the District E-13 (Jamaica Plain) Drug Control Unit arrested Osagie Mastin, 24, of Dorchester, on firearm related charges during an investigation in the area of 150 Boylston Street in Jamaica Plain. The officers were on routine patrol when they observed the suspect displaying clear indications that he may be armed with a firearm. When the officers approached and attempted to perform a pat frisk, a violent struggle ensued. The officers were eventually able to gain control of the suspect with assistance from additional responding units at which time officers safely recovered a loaded .380 caliber Hi-Point model CF380 handgun which had fallen to the ground during the struggle. The suspect will appear in West Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.
