At about 3:14 PM on Saturday, October 5, 2019, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) made an on-site firearm arrest in the area of 23 Fessenden Street, Mattapan.

While on patrol, officers conducted a traffic stop of a motor vehicle whose registration was revoked.  As officers exited their police cruiser, the driver of the motor, later identified as, Jelani Tinnis-Edwards, 21, of Mattapan, also exited his motor vehicle in an attempt to flee on foot. Officers were able to quickly detain Tinnis-Edwards. Due to the fact that the motor vehicle was being towed for a revoked registration, the passenger, later identified as, Brajon Brown, 20, of Mattapan, was also removed from the motor vehicle.

It was revealed through a registry of motor vehicle inquiry, that Tinnis-Edwards’ driver’s license was suspended and he was placed under arrest.

Officers then located a small fanny pack in the backseat of the vehicle that contained a loaded Cobra .380 with one round in the chamber, a total of 8 rounds of ammunition.

Brown was charged with the following; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.

Tinnis-Edwards was charged with the following: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Operating after Revocation/Suspension. Both suspects are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
