BPD Remembers the Service and Sacrifice of Patrolman John H. Manning Killed in the Line of Duty 81 Years Ago Today


Today the Officers of the Boston Police Department remember Patrolman John H. Manning who was killed in the line of duty 81 years ago today.

Patrolman Manning succumbed to injuries he sustained while making an arrest on Sunday February 6, 1938, at the age of 39.

He had served with the department for 16 years and is buried at New Calvary Cemetery in Mattapan. Officer Manning’s name is located on the National Law Enforcement Memorial, Panel 3, East Line 9 as well as on the Hero wall at Boston Police Headquarters and the Police Memorial at the State House.
