BPD Releases Statement on Updated Condition of Boston Police Officer Mark Whalen 

The Boston Police Department is pleased to report that Officer Mark Whalen, a one-and-a-half-year veteran of the force currently assigned to District C-6 (South Boston), has been released from the hospital and returned home. Thankfully, his condition continues to improve every day. In the days following the shooting, Officer Whalen and his family have been incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love and support received, not only from his closest friends and fellow officers, but also from concerned citizens, community members and strangers from all over the country wishing Mark a full and speedy recovery. Officer Whalen would like to thank Boston EMS as well as the staff at Boston Medical Center for the exceptional care and treatment provided to him. Officer Whalen would especially like to thank and acknowledge each and every one of the officers on scene on the night of the incident for their rapid response. 

In the days ahead, Officer Whalen and his family are asking and requesting that their privacy be recognized and respected. While the long road to recovery promises to be challenging, Officer Whalen and his family kindly ask you to keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he works diligently to recover and rehabilitate from his injuries.
