Safer Boston: BPD Officers Arrest Juvenile Male on Gun-Related Charges in Dorchester

ONE LESS GUN: At about 3:19PM, on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force were on patrol when they observed two individuals walking in the area of Talbot Ave and Washington Street. Officers quickly noted that one of the individuals was moving in such a way as if to suggest he may be in possession of a firearm. Specifically, officers observed that the individual kept looking back at the officers while simultaneously quickening his pace in what appeared to be an effort to put some distance between himself and the officers. When officers approached the individual in an effort to better examine and understand their observations, the individual, later identified as a 15-year-old juvenile male, threw his hands in the air and began arguing with the officers. Then, while officers were talking to him, the suspect, with an increased look of anxiousness, quickly turned and took off running. After a brief foot pursuit, officers were able to subdue the suspect. A pat frisk enabled officers to locate and confiscate a firearm (see photo) found in the suspect’s waist area. The recovered firearm, which was loaded, was determined to be a black Ruger 9mm Security-9 firearm with obliterated serial numbers.

The 15-year-old juvenile was charged with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Numbers, Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way and the Unlawful Possession of Large Capacity Feeding Device.
