BPD Remembers the Service and Sacrifice of Officer Daniel A. McCallum Killed in the Line of Duty 84 Years Ago Today

BPD Remembers: Today, members of the Boston Police Department remember Officer Daniel A. McCallum who died in the line of duty 84 years ago on May 12, 1935. 

Patrolman McCallum was killed in a motorcycle accident while escorting the governor’s motorcade which had left Fenway Park after a Military Mass on Mother’s Day. Officer McCallum was 40 years old at the time of his passing and had been with the department for 15 years.

Patrolman McCallum is buried at the Cambridge Cemetery in Cambridge. His name is located on the National Law Enforcement Memorial, Panel 11, East Line 14, along with the Hero Wall at Boston Police Headquarters and the Police Memorial at the State House in Downtown Boston.

A Hero sign has been placed in his honor on the Jamaica Way near Bynner Street in Jamaica Plain.
