At about 9:45 a.m., on Thursday, May 23, 2019, officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) were patrolling the area of Freeman Street and Charles Street when they observed a male travelling on a moped in the wrong direction on Charles Street.
The individual —who was not wearing a helmet, sped down Charles Street, and began operating the moped on the sidewalk of the MBTA (Fields Corner) bus terminal.
A short time later officers observed the suspect, later identified as Sharrone Baskin, 20, of Boston, jump off of the moped and flee on foot in the area of 5 Topliff Street.
As officers caught up with Baskin they observed him leaning over a porch with his right arm extended under the steps. Officers were able to place Baskin in handcuffs without incident; while observing the handle of a firearm protruding from the aforementioned steps where Baskin had been reaching. The firearm was a High Standard R-100 revolver .22 caliber and was loaded with 9 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition.
Baskin was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Carrying a Loaded Firearm. He will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
