Traffic Stop Leads to One Arrest and Recovery of a Loaded Firearm in Dorchester

At about 6:41 PM on Friday, May 31, 2019, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite arrest and recovered a loaded firearm in the area of 121 Devon Street in Dorchester. While on patrol in the area of Normandy Street and Devon Street, officers observed a motor vehicle operating with a revoked registration. Officers conducted a traffic stop due to the infraction. Officers approached the vehicle and spoke to the four occupants. The operator was informed that the registration to the vehicle had been revoked and that was the reason for which she was being stopped. Officers requested identification from the three passengers and the operator. As one officer returned to his patrol car to check the validity of the identifications provided, additional officers maintained surveillance of the occupants. At this time, officers observed the front passenger bend down to the floor before quickly returning to the upright position. Officers then removed all occupants from the vehicle. Officers subsequently located a Baretta model 87 .380 firearm loaded with nine rounds of live ammunition, from underneath the front passenger’s seat.

Officers arrested the front passenger, Ky-Von Ross, 20-years-old, of Dorchester. Ross is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device.
