Brockton Man Arrested on Gun Charges in Jamaica Plain

ONE LESS GUN: At about 10:39 PM, on Monday, June 10, 2019, officers assigned to District E-13 (Jamaica Plain) responded to a radio call for a person with a gun in the area of 138 Heath Street in Jamaica Plain.

As officers approached the area, they observed a group of males in the courtyard of 138 Heath Street. Upon seeing the approaching officers, one of the males, later identified as Jakeal Upchurch, 18 of Brockton, quickly fled on foot towards Heath Street in the direction of Lawn Street. Officers observed Upchurch throw an object over a fence into a bush. Upchurch was apprehended after a loaded 9MM Ruger was located and recovered.

Jakeal Upchurch was placed under arrest and charged with the following: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm Large Capacity, Possession of Firearm without FID Card, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.  The suspect is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
