Members of BPD’s Drug Control Unit Arrest Suspect Caught Trafficking Heroin and Fentanyl in the South End: At about 2:25pm, on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, officers assigned to the District D-4 Neighborhood Drug Control Unit were on patrol when they observed the operator of a green-colored motor vehicle, which was parked in the area of Wellington Street and Columbus Avenue, engaged in what appeared to be suspicious drug-related activity. Upon closer inspection, officers recognized the operator of the vehicle from previous interactions. While surveilling the car, officers observed an individual, described as a white male, approach the car and engage in what appeared to be a drug-related transaction. During the transaction, officers observed the white male hurriedly approach the suspect’s vehicle before depositing a package in the trunk of the vehicle. When the transaction ended, officers observed the individual hurriedly walk away while the suspect drove off towards Columbus Avenue. Interested in better understanding the nature of the transaction, officers activated their lights and sirens and stopped the vehicle. When asked where he was coming from, the operator stated that he was coming from the dry cleaners where he had just dropped off his clothes. When officers asked the operator if he’d been anywhere else or interacted with anyone in the last few minutes, the suspect stated, “No.” When asked pointedly about the earlier transaction, the suspect appeared to be startled, flustered and surprised by the question. When further queried about the package in the trunk, the suspect had no explanation and refused to answer any questions. At this time, the suspect was asked to exit the motor vehicle while a BPD K-9 responded to the scene. Once on scene, the BPD K-9 began examining the car for the presence of illegal narcotics. In short time, the BPD K-9 alerted his handler to the presence of illegal drugs in the vehicle.
A search warrant, which was executed on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, enabled officers to locate and seize significant amounts of two Class A Drugs. Specifically, officers seized one kilogram of Fentanyl and one kilogram of Heroin. Consequently, the suspect, Steven Gonzalez, 29, of Boston, was charged with Trafficking Class A Drugs (Heroin and Fentanyl).
