At approximately 8:20 PM on Friday, June 7, 2019, members of the District B-3 (Mattapan) Drug Control Unit made an onsite arrest and recovered a loaded firearm in the area of Columbia Road and Ceylon Street in Dorchester. As part of an ongoing drug investigation, officers were on patrol when they observed a motor vehicle parked at the intersection of Wayland Street and Howard Avenue. Officers identified the rear passenger, as an individual known to them to have multiple warrants and to possibly be in possession of a firearm. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop in order to take the male into custody, but the female operator refused to yield to police. The operator fled from police before coming to a stop in a parking lot at the intersection of Columbia Road and Washington Street. Officers continued their attempt to stop the vehicle when the rear door suddenly opened and the rear passenger jumped out in an effort to flee from officers. A brief foot pursuit occurred before officers successfully apprehended the suspect in the area of 24 Bishop Joe L. Smith Way. Officers subsequently recovered a TCP Taurus firearm loaded with four rounds of live ammunition and five small plastic bags containing crack cocaine from the suspect. The female operator, who was later discovered to have been operating the motor vehicle with a revoked license, was issued a citation, a summons, and was released from the scene along with the front passenger.
