ONE LESS GUN: At about 1:50 AM, on Friday, July 19, 2019, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury), made an on-site firearm arrest in the area of 197 Columbia Road, Dorchester.

Officers observed a motor vehicle fail to stop for a red light on Columbia Road at Geneva Avenue. Officers initiated a traffic stop and observed the operator, later identified as Nilton Fernandez, 20, of Dorchester, talking to the officers through the closed drivers side window. Mr. Fernandez did not open the window but instead opened the driver’s side door. After further investigation it was revealed that Mr. Fernandez did not have a valid driver’s license and was placed under arrest. As Mr. Fernandez was exiting the motor vehicle, officers observed what appeared to be the handle of a firearm under the driver’s seat. Officers recovered a loaded Lorcin 9mm with one round in the chamber and 8 rounds in the magazine.

Mr. Nilton Fernandez was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Operating a Motor Vehicle without a License.  He will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
