One Under Arrest for Subsequent Possession of a Firearm in Roxbury

ONE LESS GUN: At about 1:08 PM on Saturday, July 20, 2019 members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite arrest and recovered a loaded firearm in the area of 78 Belden Street in Roxbury. While traveling on Dudley Street, officers observed a motor vehicle operating with an excessively dark window tint. Officers followed the vehicle in an effort to conduct a traffic stop. The operator suddenly accelerated in an attempt to flee from officers. Eventually officers located the vehicle in the area of 78 Belden Street. Officers approached the vehicle, with all of the windows up. Officers requested the operator roll down the windows to speak with them to which he refused. The operator, who was known to officers from prior interactions, as well as a passenger, were removed from the vehicle. Officers subsequently located a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield firearm loaded with nine rounds of live ammunition and a plastic bag containing Oxycodone pills. The operator was taken into custody and the passenger was identified and released from the scene. 

Officers arrested Ricky Pina, 22-years-old, of Dorchester. Pina is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm Subsequent Offense, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Class B Drugs.
