INCIDENT #1: At about 10:48 PM on Tuesday July 2, 2019, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested two suspects while recovering a loaded firearm following a brief foot pursuit in the area of 18 Abbotsford Street in Roxbury. The officers were on routine patrol when they attempted to stop a motor vehicle for an equipment violation. As the vehicle slowed to a stop, the front seat passenger, later identified as Ildelfonso Velez, 18, of Attleboro, immediately exited the vehicle and took off running while clutching at the waist band area of his pants. The suspect vehicle then sped away. The officers stopped their cruiser and pursued the fleeing suspect on foot down a nearby alleyway. While in pursuit, the officers observed the suspect discard a .40 caliber Ruger P94 handgun onto the ground which was later recovered. Officers were able to catch up to the suspect on Crawford Street where he was placed in custody without further incident. A short time later, additional responding units located and stopped the suspect motor vehicle in the area of Homestead Street and Harold Street at which time the operator, Dimitri Thomas, 26, of Hyde Park, was placed in custody without incident. Both parties will appear in Roxbury District Court for arraignment. Dimitri Thomas will be charged with Failure to Stop for a Police Officer while Ildelfonso Velez will be charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.

INCIDENT #2: At about 10:58 PM on Tuesday July 2, 2019, officers assigned to District A-15 (Charlestown) arrested two suspects on firearm related charges after performing a traffic stop in the area of Alfred Street and Dexter Street in Charlestown. The officers were on routine patrol when they stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic infraction. As the officers were approaching to speak with the operator, later identified as Raul Landaverde, 22, of Somerville, they observed him moving quickly towards the passenger side of the vehicle before returning to an upright position. Fearing the presence of a weapon, the officers removed both the operator and the front seat passenger, later identified as Kirby Calixte, 26, of Somerville, at which time they recovered a loaded .40 caliber Glock 23 handgun with a thirty round extended magazine from inside the vehicle. The two suspects were then placed in custody on scene without incident. Both suspects will appear in Charlestown District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm and Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device. Additionally, Raul Landaverde will be charged with Unlawful Possession of Firearm (2nd and Subsequent).
