Officers Make Arrest in Breaking and Entering of Local Business Within 24 Hours of Incident

At about 2:06 AM on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan), responded to a radio call for a breaking and entering in progress at Walgreens, located at 825 Morton Street, Mattapan. Upon arrival, officers canvassed the area and observed that the receiving gate on the rear of the building was propped opened.  

The Officers were able to enter the building but the suspect was no longer on scene. Officers reviewed the stores surveillance cameras and observed the male suspect lifting up the gate to enter the receiving area of the store. Officers observed the suspect take random goods while exiting through the side door.

At about 12:01 AM, on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan), while patrolling the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Landor Road, observed a male fitting the description of the suspect from the surveillance footage from prior incident. The suspect, later identified as Darren Taylor, 60, of Boston, was the same weight, the same height and was also wearing the same baseball hat, t-shirt, pants and sneakers as the male in the surveillance video.

Mr. Taylor was placed under arrest and charged with the following; Breaking and Entering a Building or Ship; Intent to Commit a Felony, and Possession of Class B, Drugs (Cocaine).

During the booking process, officers recovered two pieces of a white, rock-like substance believed to be crack cocaine from the suspects front pocket. Mr. Taylor will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
