Male Under Arrest and Firearm Recovered in Dorchester

One Less Gun: At about 11:10 PM on Friday, August 23, 2019, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) made an onsite arrest and recovered a loaded firearm in the area of 70 Ames Street in Dorchester. While on patrol in the area of the aforementioned location, officers heard what sounded to be a gunshot a short distance from the officers. A group was observed in the area and as officers spoke to them to see if they had also heard the gunshot, a male was observed running at a full sprint from behind officers, passing by the rear of the officer’s cruiser before crashing into a fence between 40 and 50 Ames Street. Officers immediately exited their cruiser and pursued the male who was clutching his waistband. The male fled to the rear of 50 Ames Street and into the building at 70 Ames Street. Officers continued their pursuit into the building and observed the male pull a firearm from the right side of his waist as he scaled a flight of stairs. The male then threw the firearm and continued up the stairs. Officers eventually placed the suspect in custody following a brief struggle. Officers recovered a Smith & Wesson 9mm model 990L loaded with seven rounds of live ammunition.

Officers arrested Jayrheik Thomas, 22-years-old, of Roxbury. Thomas is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Resisting arrest.
