Officers Arrest Armed Suspect and Recover Loaded Firearm in Jamaica Plain

One Less Gun: At about 7:30 PM, on Friday, August 23, 2019, members of the District A-7 (East Boston) Drug Control Unit made an onsite arrest and recovered a loaded firearm in the area of 130 Heath Street in Jamaica Plain. While on directed patrol in the Bromley Heath Development, officers observed a male on a bicycle riding in the area. Upon seeing officers, the male abruptly turned around on his bicycle and fled in the opposite direction while constantly looking back at the officers. The male, who appeared nervous, continued to pedal away from officers with his right hand rigidly affixed to an apparent object in his pocket. Officers continued their surveillance of the male who retreated to the area of 130 Heath Street. Officers followed the male, still with his hand inside of his pocket. The male attempted to evade officers, switching directions numerous times, before officers approached him. The male quickly reached into his right jacket pocket as officers approached. The male then turned away from officers and positioned himself against a fence. The male was commanded to remove his hands from his pockets to which he refused. Officers eventually secured the male’s arms and located a Kel-Tec .380 firearm loaded with five rounds of live ammunition.  The male was taken into custody.

Officers arrested Jerry Matos, 21-years-old, of Jamaica Plain. Matos is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
