At about 1:23 AM on Sunday, August 4, 2019, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan), while on patrol, responded to a call for a large group of vehicles, scooters and pedestrians gathered and illegally parked in the bike lane located in the area of 415 American Legion Highway in Mattapan.

As officers pulled over to issue parking citations, one of the motor vehicles attempted to pull off into traffic. Officers activated their lights and sirens in order to conduct a traffic stop but the motor vehicle refused to pull over. Officers activated the cruisers spotlight and observed the back-seat passenger, later identified as, Yulissa Diaz, 25, of Brockton, lean out of sight, then reappear looking back at officers.

Once the motor vehicle came to a stop, officers approached and observed the occupants holding opened containers that smelled of alcohol.  The driver, later identified as Randy Gonzalez, 25, of Dorchester, began to exit the vehicle but was ordered to remain seated and to shut off the vehicle. Once officers safely removed the occupants from the motor vehicle, a loaded IZH-70 .380 ACP firearm was recovered directly behind the rear female passengers’ seat.

Ms. Diaz and Mr. Gonzalez were placed under arrest and charged with the following; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Carrying a Loaded Firearm in Public. Additionally, the operator, Mr. Gonzalez, was issued a citation for the open containers of alcohol located inside the motor vehicle. Both suspects will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
